CDL Test: Commercial Vehicle Passing

Q.: During commercial vehicle passing of other vehicles, when are the ideal passing situations? You may not overtake and pass another vehicle which is moving at less than 20 mph on a grade:

A.: your commercial vehicle cannot pass the vehicle within a 1/4 mile of distance, or if you cannot pass that vehicle at a speed of 10 mph faster than it is traveling.

Explanation: Extreme caution is mandatory during commercial vehicle passing situations. Use extreme caution when passing slower vehicles, especially on grades. In some situations, just because you may be legally entitled to pass another vehicle, specific circumstances may make doing so unsafe, and put you and the other driver in danger.
